The recommended usage of Ganoderma Lucidum

By: Levi H. Pagunsan, M.D., F.P.C.P.

First of all, anyone taking Ganoderma Lucidum must increase his water intake as Ganoderma has been observed from experience, testimonials and scientific report to possess diuretic properties. 65-70% of our body weight is water and so if one does not replace the water loss as a result of taking this food, one can get dehydrated. There are good reasons why water is the most important part of man’s diet. First, water is needed in every single cell to produce energy. Second, water is needed to transport nutrients and oxygen from the blood to the cells. Third, water is also needed to carry the body’s waste product after energy is extracted from the nutrients, to be eliminated either by respiration, through perspiration as sweat, or through the kidneys by urination, and as stool.

Many diseases afflicting mankind are caused by the poor removal of the waste product of metabolism due to poor water intake, since an insufficient amount of water will cause imbalance within the cells and disrupt the body’s function in general. The gradual reduction of the body fluids makes the cells dehydrated and will cause cell death. In cold countries, people have the tendency to take less amount of water because they don’t have the desire to drink. The cold environment causes the body to adjust and adapt, so the thirst center is not stimulated and the person does not seek water to drink. The adjustment is temporary and for a short period will not affect the body’s functions. However, if allowed to continue for a longer period, it will be detrimental to the cells due to dehydration and will result in gradual deterioration of the cell. Correspondingly, disrupting cell functions will cause cell death.

The gradual deterioration of the cells does not manifest any warning to the patient because it does not cause pain or any obvious symptoms until a great number of cells of the specific organs fail and die. It is important to note that enough water must be taken regularly to meet the body’s demand per day. Water intake is computed based on body weight, and the formula for our normal water needs is: weight in pounds divided by 16. Ex: 150lbs. divided by 16 = 9 glasses of water/day, or even more as can be tolerated. The best guide for water intake is the color of the urine. If the urine color is yellow it indicates that the water intake is insufficient. When the urine color resembles that of water, only then is one assured of sufficient water intake. Thirst is a poor indicator of water needs in the body.

Our body is the best doctor and, as such, is capable of curing itself. Why sometimes it fails to cure or prevent a foreign body to cause damage illness is due to the fact that its defense system had malfunctioned due to lack of, or improper, nutrition and insufficient water intake.

Ganoderma is not a medicine and should not be promoted as such. Its main function is to provide a balanced nutrition for the trillions of cells that our body is made up of. Once these body cells are properly nourished and healthy, the cells protect the body from foreign invaders that may cause illness, and which are stopped by the body cells assigned to do the job, either by ingesting the invaders or by releasing substances that will cause the invaders to disintegrate. They produce hormones and antibodies to protect the overall body functions.

Most illnesses are caused by the imbalance of the body functions due to improper diet. Many are not aware that the food we eat three times a day does not guarantee a complete food amount that the body needs. Often, one hears people saying, “I’m full” or “I am not hungry,” but being not hungry or being full is not an indication that one has already inside him the proper amount of nutrition for his cells to function properly.

Our body is comparable to car engines. There are cars that run best if the owner follows the specific fuel requirement. Engines that run on gasoline should not be given diesel fuel; otherwise the engine will malfunction and later be destroyed. In the same token, our body was designed to function properly, but only if they are provided with the choice fuel. What one puts in his mouth for food is the single most important act one must not take for granted because it is the key to health and greatly influences man’s lifespan.

Recommended Ganoderma Dosage

1. Start with a pair per day for the first week;
2. Increase dosage gradually in the following weeks;

1st week; 1 pair

2nd week; 2 pairs

3rd week; 3 or 4 pairs

4th week; 4 or 6 pairs

3. The dosage varies with the individual response. For maintenance, a daily dosage of two or four pairs a day.

4. Dosage is increased up to six pairs or more in those with serious life threatening condition given for revitalizing the remaining normal cells.

5. Best taken with an empty stomach as can be tolerated. Otherwise, it is taken after meals.

6. Ganoderma is not a substitute to prescribed medication. However, patients with diabetes and who are taking oral hypoglycemics or insulin must be followed up, as Ganoderma is known to reduce blood sugar level.

7. In taking Ganoderma, one should take liberal amounts of water.

8. Ganoderma is food and does not require prescription.

9. It can be taken for as long as life lasts.

Note: Ganoderma has no known side effects. However, reactions may be observed in the early period while taking it. It is believed that the manifestations are welcome reactions as they are the body’s way of adjusting to the nutrients provided. The reactions will be more manifested especially on those who have more medical problems and can be negligible to those who do not have any. The reactions may not be the same to all people.

If reaction occurs, dosage may be reduced for two to three days and resumed after symptoms had disappeared. Remember, always increase fluid intake when taking Ganoderma, since it washes the toxins out of the body, thus bringing it back to its proper balance and equilibrium.◙
